in the spotlight: ionic bench.
July 27, 2011
This offering from Laurie Beckerman Design is fluid and organic, taking a much used but not often revolutionized element in design—the bench—and reinvigorating it with a soothing, scrolling silhouette. There is, however, one major problem we can think of: While the Baltic birch plywood construction is certainly an indicator of the piece’s intention for high functionality, it’s still almost too beautiful to sit on. Chicago-based designer John Robert Wiltgen has the right idea, though, approaching the Ionic Bench like the work of art it is, instead of as just a (really impressive) place to sit.
