editor's obsession: lights fantastic.
June 27, 2011
It must be hard getting attention in Italy: You have to compete with the food and the fashion and all the tall, dark and handsome types, but I’ve seen the light, literally. I stumbled across this beautiful collection of lamps from a gifted group of industrial design students from Milan’s Scuola Politecnica di Design on mocoloco, and I’m nearly willing to give up my love of all things Italian (Not pasta, though, of course; I have to draw the line somewhere.) for the chance to bring them into my home. The hand-blown glass lamps are the brainchildren of Isaac Pineiro, Kelly Pearson, Hiromi Fukikoshi and Roberto Rossi, and while they’re not yet available for sale, they have been shortlisted for the Targa Giovani—an award presented only every three years to the best design thesis projects to emerge from Italian schools, and they surely have my vote.
