in the spotlight: lava vase.
June 22, 2011
Leave it to Waylande Gregory to find inspiration in one of the most nostalgically tacky remnants from the '70s and from college dorm rooms across the country: the lava lamp. Part of a reissue of the late sculptor’s work, the Lava Vase’s precious porcelain ceramic base and 22-karat-gold glaze impart a feeling of movement and grace that comes a long way from the black-lit basements of its predecessor. Instead, the vase is a piece that has won a hard-earned place on carefully curated mantels and some lofty praise from some highly respected designers.
