Lately, I’ve been seeing spots, and not the kind in front of my eyes. I’m referring to polka dots of every size, shape and color. Initially drawn to the spherical designs for their quirky and eclectic aesthetic (I am a child of the ’80s, after all.), I’ve been watching them creep into the mainstream to huge fanfare, and it’s easy to see why: they’re bold, modern and playful, with just a hint of classic nuance. Whether adding a pop of color to the Polka Dot Scarf from the MoMA Design Store or setting the stage for a delicate tea with Kate Spade’s Larabee Road Platinum Cup, there are a host of polka dot prints and variations for every design approach.
