We like to think that at the heart of every tried-and-true city slicker is a mountain-loving persona (like ourselves). Though that might not always be the case, we would bet our favorite Hermès scarf that one look at this stunning Lake Forest Park, Washington, abode, and the most steadfast of urban dwellers might have a change of heart. From the home’s original terrazzo floors to the new weathered-steel panels and warm Douglas fir accents throughout, the 1950s residence was given an interior and exterior facelift by architect Nils Finne, of Finne Architects, to satisfy the midcentury-meets-modern aesthetic desire of the homeowners. “It’s a quintessential Northwest contemporary house,” says Finne. “It’s this idea of taking modernism and making it much more intensely personal and textural and creating surfaces that invite human touch.”
