in the spotlight: hummingbird.
October 05, 2011
The hummingbird, by nature, is a fast-moving creature, with its tiny wings flapping up to 40 beats per second. So, designer Alan Tanksley has it exactly right when talking about the kind of client he sees digging his feet into this flat-weave The Rug Company carpet. However adorable the jewel-colored birds are in flight against their black backdrop, though, the eye-catching scene retains some of the almost-deliberately menacing style common in the oeuvre of its creator: the late Alexander McQueen. Says Tanksley: “I think it’s a clever reference to our over-achieving lifestyles.”
