They say—whoever they are—that third time’s the charm, and who are we to disagree? Especially when faced with this classic gem in Paradise Valley, Arizona, whose Mediterranean style was refined not once, but twice, by its original architect, Mark Candelaria. But while we’re crazy for the over-the-top opulence of the rich wood paneling and cabinetry and the grand staircase, we’re glad that designer Christopher K. Coffin went a bit subtler in his interpretation of the interiors, bringing a bit of casual comfort to the otherwise very formal setting. The complex textural mixes paired with the simplified silhouettes of the classic furniture, like the pieces from Formations, Minton-Spidell and Dennis & Leen in the living room above, are inviting and warm without straying too far from the buttoned-up feel of the home.
