You never forget the first time you realize you’re looking at a Rex Ray painting. Mostly because after that initial flicker of recognition, you quickly understand why the signature, bright prints look so familiar: You’ve seen them everywhere. From rugs and textiles to wallpaper and electronics covers, no surface is off limits for Ray’s colorful collages. Our favorite way to enjoy the art, though, is still when it’s hanging on the wall, in its canvas form; and happily, San Francisco’s Gallery 16 has us covered. Their seventh exhibition of new works by Rex Ray opens on September 9th and runs through October 29th.
Famalina, above, and Amorospora, below, are just a couple of our recent favorites that will be on display. Do you have a favorite Rex Ray piece?
